Within days of announcing Toyota's formation of a "Committee to create interesting cars," this summer's Best Car Plus magazine reveals that the long-rumoured new AE86 type car has indeed been spawned by the group and should be in showrooms in the winter of 2008.

The new article goes into some detail of the new car's spec. Under 4m long and 1.7m wide, it's pretty low at 1.35m tall, and engineers have been directed to keep weight below 1,000kgs. Power will come from a 1.5L 2NZ-FE good for 120 horsepower. What has been unknown until this time is where Toyota would source a cheap RWD drivetrain, but Best Car has learned that it will come from new partner Fuji Heavy Industries - better known to you and me as Subaru.

And the best news of all? The committee's final directive is to keep the new car's sticker price below 1.5million Yen. That's about $12,300 USD in today's money.

target weight lies under 1000kg (2200lbs),

Like the Scion xD, which is branded as the Toyota ist in Japan, there is a good possiblity that the AE86 might make it to the USA as a new Scion tC, or as an entirely new Scion budget performance car. Toyota is aiming for a 1.5mil Yen (or $12,300 / under 10,000Euro) price tag.

Κάτω από 1000 κιλά και 1.5 κυβικά (!) που είναι τα πλέον απόδεκτά για τον έλληνα καταναλωτη και την ελληνική νομοθεσία...!
Μακάρι να έρθει παιδιά... Το ερωτευτηκα! 1500 κυβικά, 120 άλογα στις 6.500 και κοντά 15 κιλά ροπή σε 1000κιλά αμάξωμα... Ααα, και μην ξεχνάμε... Π Ι Σ Ω Κ Ι Ν Η Τ Ο...!

Μακαρι ρε παιδια να ερθει και εδω αλλα πρωτα απο ολα μακαρι να βγει στην παραγωγη.
Οσο για τον 1500αρι και τα 120 αλογα του, τον βλεπω να παιρνει ποδι απο κανενα πιο αγριο 16v η 20ν.

ακριβως.....θα ειναι κατι σαν το paseo μετριες καταστασεις προσπαθοντας να δειξει κατι σουπερ φανταστικο......κ να βγει σε παραγωγη δε θα βγει ετσι οπως θα το θελαμε οποτε....ψιλοαποτυχια απο τωρα μου μυριζει...
